Stevia Seedlings

$2.49 for 3mg! lol!
This past Monday  (17 Jan. 2011), I took the day off of work and went with my mom to do some leisurely shopping for nothing in particular. I picked up two new future worm bins at Home Depot as well as some herb seeds because we are now pretty much out of everything I grew and dried over the last few seasons. I noticed a packet of Stevia by Burpee and couldn't resist trying this out considering I love sugar and would like an alternative sweetener.

I got home and everything was going well until my Mom made a joke about how empty the packet of Stevia seeds were. When I examined the packet, it seriously was as if they didn't bother to put any seeds in there.  I opened the packet and found there to be about 7 seeds. I am sure this is common practice to find a very small amount of seeds for exorbitant prices but this is my first encounter so I was a little shocked (I guess I should have read 3mg for weight!).

At this point, I rushed to plant them to see if any of them would germinate, and sure enough, they did. I planted them in Miracle-Grow Moisture Control soil (not a lot of options this time of year and also, I needed to repot my Plumeria) so we shall see how this rushed experiment turns out.
The seedlings are a little difficult so see, but I tried to highlight them
This is how they look currently, not even a week since they were planted. I normally try to buy seeds from small seed companies not affiliated with large corporations (my own personal preference, everyone else can do what they like), but it was an impulse buy, what can I say.
